How Much Does It Cost to Study in the UAE From Pakistan? (2026)

Budget roughly AED 43,500 to AED 108,000 a year for tuition alone, depending on where you study. Add AED 14,000 to AED 40,000 for university housing and about AED 5,500 to AED 8,500 for the student residence visa package, and a realistic all-in first year in the UAE runs from around AED 70,000 at the affordable end to well over AED 150,000 at the American University in Dubai. Those figures come straight from university fee pages published for the 2026 intakes, not from estimates.

What does tuition actually cost across the UAE?

The UAE does not regulate university fees centrally. Each institution sets its own, which is why the spread is enormous and why any article quoting a single average is misleading you. Here are published 2026 figures, per year, for undergraduate study.

  • Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Dubai. Evening BBA and evening BSc in Information Systems start at AED 43,575 for the September 2026 batch. Day-time BA programmes run AED 44,100, most BSc and BBA day programmes sit at AED 50,925, and the engineering side including BTech Computer Science, Robotics and AI, and Architecture is AED 57,750. All figures include 5% VAT.
  • Abu Dhabi University. International undergraduate tuition ranges from AED 46,515 for Mass Communications to AED 64,470 for Civil Engineering, before 5% VAT. Software Engineering is AED 60,200 and Information Technology is AED 57,810.
  • RIT Dubai. A flat AED 68,000 per year covers every bachelor’s programme, from Cybersecurity to New Media Design.
  • American University in Dubai. The top of the market at AED 108,050 per year, made up of AED 106,050 tuition plus a AED 2,000 services and technology fee.

So the honest answer for a Pakistani family: tuition starts near AED 43,500, most reputable options cluster between AED 46,000 and AED 68,000, and the premium American institutions run past AED 100,000.

Postgraduate study follows a similar pattern. Manipal Dubai charges AED 42,525 a year for most MTech and MSc programmes and AED 57,750 for the core MBA. RIT Dubai prices master’s degrees as a total programme cost, from AED 117,000 for Cybersecurity or Electrical Engineering up to AED 143,550 for Smart Cities. AUD charges AED 14,490 per three-credit course, which puts a twelve-course MBA around AED 173,880 in total.

Tip: UAE tuition is quoted per academic year, but almost every university lets you pay in instalments. Manipal Dubai splits the annual fee into four payments. Ask about post-dated cheque schedules before you transfer a lump sum from Pakistan and lose money on the exchange.

Which is cheaper, Dubai or Abu Dhabi?

Neither wins outright, and the emirate matters less than the institution’s origin. A branch campus of an American university charges American-influenced fees wherever it sits. An Indian-origin or regional institution charges less on either side of the border.

Compare like for like. An engineering degree at Abu Dhabi University costs AED 60,200 to AED 64,470 a year. The same field at Manipal Dubai costs AED 57,750. At RIT Dubai it is AED 68,000. The gap between the cheapest and the most expensive of those three is about AED 10,000 a year, which is real but not decisive.

Housing is where the emirates separate more clearly. Abu Dhabi University charges AED 14,200 for a shared-bath double room, rising to AED 32,600 for a private room. Manipal Dubai’s hostel starts at AED 30,000 for triple occupancy and reaches AED 40,000 for a single. AUD sits in between at AED 17,000 for a shared room and AED 28,000 for a single. Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah generally undercut both Dubai and Abu Dhabi, which is worth investigating if budget drives your decision.

How much is the UAE student residence visa?

Your university sponsors your residence visa, so you pay the institution rather than a government office directly, and the price varies with how they package it.

  • Manipal Dubai: AED 5,460 for a new visa applied for from outside the country on normal processing, or AED 7,100 express. Applying from inside the UAE costs more, at AED 7,350 normal. A refundable caution deposit of AED 3,000 sits on top. Health insurance is included in that fee.
  • RIT Dubai: AED 5,300, which includes a AED 2,500 refundable deposit, so the true cost is closer to AED 2,800. Annual renewal is AED 1,750 and cancellation is AED 525. Insurance is charged separately at AED 3,150 for the narrow plan or AED 6,000 for comprehensive cover.
  • American University in Dubai: AED 2,000 visa fee, AED 3,000 refundable passport deposit and AED 3,200 annual mandatory health insurance, totalling AED 8,200 up front.

Health insurance is not optional. It is a legal condition of residence in the UAE, and universities enforce it strictly.

What does student accommodation cost?

University housing is the simplest option for a Pakistani student arriving alone, and the published rates above give you a firm range of roughly AED 14,200 to AED 40,000 per year. Sharing brings the number down sharply at every institution.

Private accommodation in Dubai can be cheaper per person if you share a flat with three or four others, but you take on utility bills, a security deposit, agency commission and often a year-long lease that does not match your academic calendar. For a first year, most students are better off in university housing and then reassessing.

Note that hostel fees rarely include food. Manipal Dubai states this explicitly. Build a separate monthly grocery and eating budget.

Which costs do Pakistani families forget?

  • Application and registration fees. Manipal Dubai charges AED 3,150 for undergraduate application and registration combined, plus a refundable AED 500 caution deposit. Abu Dhabi University charges AED 300 for the application and AED 2,850 to register. AUD charges AED 420.
  • The upfront acceptance payment. Abu Dhabi University asks international students for USD 5,000 once the offer is accepted, covering the repatriation deposit, visa fee, insurance and registration, with the balance credited to first-semester tuition. RIT Dubai takes a AED 2,500 enrolment deposit.
  • Transport. Manipal Dubai’s bus service runs AED 2,125 to AED 2,850 per semester depending on your sector.
  • Books and equipment. RIT Dubai estimates AED 500 per semester for books. AUD warns architecture students to budget about AED 4,000 for a laptop plus AED 2,500 a year in materials.
  • Attestation and document costs in Pakistan. Your degrees and transcripts need proper attestation before a UAE university will process them. Our guide on document attestation for studying abroad covers the sequence.

Key takeaways

UAE undergraduate tuition starts around AED 43,575 a year at Manipal Dubai, typically runs AED 46,500 to AED 68,000 at institutions such as Abu Dhabi University and RIT Dubai, and reaches AED 108,050 at the American University in Dubai. University housing costs AED 14,200 to AED 40,000 a year, and the sponsored student residence visa package runs about AED 5,300 to AED 8,200 up front, with part of that refundable. Add application, registration, transport and insurance and a lean first year lands near AED 70,000 while a premium one passes AED 150,000. Fees are set by each institution, not the government, so always price the specific programme rather than a national average.

A realistic first-year budget

For a Pakistani student taking an engineering degree at a mid-range Dubai university, sharing university housing:

  • Tuition: AED 57,750
  • Application and registration: AED 3,150
  • Student visa and insurance: AED 5,460, of which AED 3,000 is a refundable deposit
  • Shared hostel: AED 30,000
  • Transport: AED 5,200 for two semesters
  • Books and personal costs: variable, plan conservatively

That comes to roughly AED 101,500 before food and personal spending, with AED 3,000 coming back at the end of the programme. Choose the evening BBA at AED 43,575 and live off campus with flatmates and the same year looks very different.

Is the UAE worth it compared to Europe?

The UAE’s case is proximity, a large Pakistani community, no language barrier, direct flights from Lahore and Karachi, and a job market where graduates can stay on. Its weakness is that tuition is not cheap and public universities are largely closed to international undergraduates, so there is no free option the way there is in parts of Europe.

If cost is the only criterion, several European countries beat it. Our comparison of tuition-free European countries for Pakistani students lays out where public universities charge little or nothing. Closer to home, Malaysia often undercuts the UAE on both tuition and living costs.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest university in the UAE for Pakistani students?

Among established institutions with published 2026 fees, Manipal Academy of Higher Education Dubai starts lowest at AED 43,575 a year for its evening BBA and evening Information Systems programmes. Institutions in Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah are often cheaper again but publish fees less consistently.

Can Pakistani students get scholarships to study in the UAE?

Yes, and most are institutional rather than government-funded. RIT Dubai offers up to 50% off tuition based on academic and non-academic achievement, and Abu Dhabi University and Manipal Dubai both run merit scholarship programmes. Apply early, because these are usually capped.

How much is the UAE student visa from Pakistan?

Your university sponsors it. Published 2026 charges range from AED 2,000 at the American University in Dubai plus deposits and insurance, to AED 5,460 at Manipal Dubai for a new visa from outside the country, which includes health insurance. Refundable deposits of AED 2,500 to AED 3,000 usually apply on top.

Can I work part-time while studying in the UAE?

Students on a university-sponsored residence visa can work part-time with a permit, subject to conditions set by the relevant authorities and their institution. Do not assume it will cover your fees. Treat any earnings as help with personal costs, not as a funding plan.

Do UAE universities require IELTS from Pakistani students?

Most do for degree programmes, though scores are often more moderate than in the UK or Australia and several institutions accept TOEFL, PTE or their own placement test. Abu Dhabi University runs its own placement testing, and RIT Dubai offers a pre-university academic English course for students who need it.

Is accommodation included in UAE tuition fees?

No. Housing is charged separately and ranges from about AED 14,200 a year for a shared-bath double room at Abu Dhabi University to AED 40,000 for a single room at Manipal Dubai. Food is generally not included in hostel fees either.

How does UAE tuition compare with studying in Turkey or Malaysia?

The UAE is usually more expensive than both. Malaysia and Turkey commonly land below the UAE’s AED 43,500 starting point once converted, though the UAE offers stronger graduate salary prospects and easier travel from Pakistan.

Are UAE university fees subject to VAT?

Yes, 5% VAT applies to most fees. Manipal Dubai quotes its tuition inclusive of VAT, while Abu Dhabi University quotes figures before VAT and adds it separately. Read the footnotes carefully when comparing two universities.
